Please Note: Considering these mats are made from rubber they may initially emit a mild rubber smell especially when new and used in enclosed areas. Any rubber smell will fade away after a short period of time especially if there is good ventilation available. Anyone who may be extra sensitive to such odour should consider this before purchasing.
Laying Procedure:
The best way to lay the mats is in a stretcher bond (brick pattern).
Lay the first row of mats against the longest straight wall compressing each new mat into the previous mat. When you start the 2nd row start with ½ width mat and compress all the mats towards the corner as you go. This will create a pattern the same as a typical brick wall appears. Continue to compress all mats towards the corner you started from during the entire laying process.
This laying method will remove any minor size tolerances and gaps between each mat and they will all lock together much better than if you were to use a stack bond pattern where all 4 corners of the mats meet at one point.
The best way to cut the mats is with a sharp Stanley knife and a flat straight edge. You will have to make a few passes with the knife to cut through the 15mm depth of the mat. You can also cut shapes by making several passes with the cut and always take extra care by cutting away from yourself and not towards yourself in case the knife slips.
As these mats are a natural rubber product they will slightly expand in the hot summer and contract in cold winter. So it is important to compress the mats tightly together during the initial installation to prevent any small gaps opening up later especially if laying in the warmer months.
If you have mats ending which are not enclosed by walls or physical objects you can either glue the last row of mats down or use a fixed down finishing strip like those used for carpet or floating timber flooring to restrict the mats from moving.
MAINTENANCE:
How to clean Recycled Rubber Flooring?
On occasion fine dust or dirt may become embedded in the tiles making them more difficult to clean. When that occurs vacuum the tiles thoroughly with a heavy duty vacuum preferably with a beater brush to remove as much dirt as possible to clean the mats.
A mild solution of dishwashing liquid or similar detergent and water work well to clean recycled rubber.
Be certain that you do not use too strong a solution as you do not want it to be sudsy or leave any residue when it dries. Whatever cleaner is used we recommend a Nylon mop not a cotton mop as cotton will leave particles behind. Do not use petroleum based cleaners as these can cause deterioration of the tiles. Do not use cleaners containing a wax agent as the wax can cause a build-up on the tiles.
Notes: Despite every effort to provide accurate images of each product’s colour and design, actual colours and design may vary slightly, due to different device screen settings, the lighting in the installation location, slight differences in product finishes over time and other factors.
